According to a poll given by Pantene to a large array of men we now get to know the first thing about us ladies that they notice is NOT…

I recently auditioned for the Shu Uemora Haigo Artistic US Team and made it! I was invited to go to Splashlite studios in NYC for a very intense training on how Shu Uemora is to be represented, and as a result was one of the first in the country to learn the new Kendo Ballet collection.

The collection was created in Paris by four Shu Uemora Artist representing Tomohiro Ohashi for Japan, Luigi Burratti for Italy, Darren Fowler for France, and Edris Nicolls for the US. 

I came back a different person, realizing my 20 years plus of experience and credibility in the Beauty industry had become clearer and the direction of my vision solidified.

The opportunity of what’s to come and what i can bring to my Staff and our clients is very exciting! I was invited to go back to NYC a week later to work on the Phillip Lim show at Fashion Week which was sponsored by Kerastase Paris. It was an amazing experience. So we all know how to take care of our skin by now. Our mothers, grandmothers, friends and even our neighbors tell us in order to keep our skin looking young and radiant we need to regularly use sunscreen to protect it, regularly get facials to cleanse it and drink plenty of water to replenish it. What most of us are not aware of is that our hair actually goes through the same aging process that our skin does, and just like skin, our hair gets drier as we age. So it only makes sense that an important key to stay looking young and radiant is to have radiant and healthy hair. I have 6 great ways to get started on the right track.

Step 1: Trim up!
Just as you would visit with any professional before starting a new regimen, a visit with your stylist can help you with a plan of action. First up should be a good trim. It is absolutely essential to getting your hair in tip-top shape because split ends will actually travel up the hair shaft and in turn cause more breakage! So getting rid of that off the bat will improve the overall health of the hair. We also love using Shu Uemura Art of Hair DeepSea Waters during your cut because it restores and replenishes your hair at the same time.

Step 2: Smooth out that frizz.

Keratin Treatment

One salon favorite is the Keratin treatment. This is a protein-based treatment that actually seals the outer layer of your hair which smoothes down the “frizz” and adds shine! And best of all – the formula is made of a protein with molecules that actually reinforce weakened spots and prevent more breakage!!! This treatment can last up to six months…so get it done in early spring, and you’re set all the way through the humid summer months! Other at-home smoothing favorites are the Kerastase Oleo Relax Slim products that can be used all summer long to smooth and moisturize.

Step 3: Get your hair in GOOD CONDITION.

We all need to put more thought into washing our hair. Not just what products we use, but how often we do it. Because water (especially hot water) can actually strip our hair of the natural oils our hair needs, shampooing only every other day or every 3 days can really help. Then, when we do wash, we should use a restorative formula like Shu Uemura’s Silk Bloom or Velvet Moisture shampoo and conditioner that rebalance the hair without weighing it down. Then follow it up with an in-salon conditioning treatment. Our new fav: The caviar treatment by Kerastase. It has an ultra rich formulation that is often referred to as “The Hair Miracle”. No matter what damage you have put your hair through, it restores the life, shine and body to dull, damaged and limp hair.

Step 4: Puttin’ on the Glitz!
Now it’s time to show off your healthier tresses, and what better way to do that than color? Coloring your hair will add the body and shine that we were all born with, but start to lose naturally. At The Grand, we have all been obsessed with the new hair color by L’Oreal called INOA. This is “the hair color of the future”; an oil-based hair color that is free of ammonia, which is what is responsible for color related damage. Not only is this hair color actually good for your hair, but also leaves it shinier and it’s relatively fade free!!!

Step 5: Give it a break – before it literally breaks!!!!!
Why does the grass always seem greener on the other side??? If we have straight hair, we want it curly…if we were born with naturally curly hair, we long for straight locks! But try this for a change…instead of using all those damaging tools (you know the responsible parties…blow driers, flat irons, curling irons…), try working with your natural texture. Ask your stylist for help styling your hair in a way that’s working with your natural texture instead of against it. And if you insist on using thermal tools on your locks, then at least be kind to them while you do. Using good, professional quality tools (such as the FHI Nano Salon Pro 2000 blow dryer) is a start. Then, I also suggest using a thermal protective cream like Ciment Thermique Heat Activated Reconstructor Milk by Kerastase, that way you’re not frying your strands as you style.

Step 6: Relax and enjoy your new hair!

We all know that stress does a number on our bodies – and yes – on our hair too (Hello…was that grey hair there yesterday?!?!?!?). So take a deep breath, and do something good for yourself.
